Transform Mid-Atlantic is excited to introduce the 2026-2027 cohort of Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellows! This marks the fifth year of the program since its founding 2022-2023. The program, which will begin in August, will include the largest cohort in its history, with 17 students from a diverse cross section of TMA member colleges and universities across Maryland, Washington, DC., and Delaware. This year's cohort includes students studying a variety of disciplines - from public administration and political science to accounting and biology - and students who grew up in communities across the United States and around the world. Each fellow has been nominated by their institution's president to participate in the year-long program based on their commitments to leadership and civic engagement, as well as their potential to affect positive and sustainable social change at the local level. This fellowship offers students in our service region high impact opportunities to develop their leadership skills and understanding of civic and community engagement so that they may better serve as leaders in their communities and collectively create solutions to our region’s most urgent problems. Fellows participate in monthly sessions that feature guest speakers, regular reflections, a capstone project, and an in-person end-of-fellowship retreat. The program was launched in 2022-2023 with the support of TMA's Board and Senior Advisory Group for Engagement.
The TMACF Program is focused on two overarching yet interconnected themes: leadership and sustainable development. They learn about these concepts through monthly sessions with guest speakers, professional development opportunities, an in-person retreat in Washington, DC, and the creation of individual capstone projects. The program introduces fellows to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and ultimately seeks to demonstrate that local issues and opportunities are tied to global systems and innovations for a more sustainable future.
We are excited to share that the 2026-2027 TMACF Program is generously supported by the Erica Pincus Arabesque Foundation Not Yet Grant Program and the National Issues Forums Institute What's Next, America? Spark Grant Program.
Please contact Anthony Wagner, Director of the TMACF Program, with questions or to learn about opportunities to support this flagship student program.
