President, Morgan State University

As a first year graduate student at Morgan State University’s Landscape Architecture program, I am interested in participating in the Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellowship because I believe this opportunity will aid in developing my leadership skills to better serve my community as well as engage with like-minded individuals who aim to be the change needed in our society.

Throughout my academic and professional career, it was important for me to seek opportunities where I am giving back to my community. Before matriculating to Morgan State University, I served as the Public Relations Co-Chair for the National Council of Negro Women, during my senior year at Towson University. In this role, it allowed me to work alongside inspirational women of color, supporting our campus and community through activities including food donations/kits for the homeless and promoting donation drives for organizations such as March of Dimes. Continuing the work of giving back, in my current role at the Baltimore County Office of Housing, I assist low-income families and individuals seeking housing in the Baltimore County area. Doing this work and serving my community has been the most rewarding experience.

Upon completing my degree in landscape architecture, my goal is to bridge the gap between the natural and built environments. Growing up in Baltimore, I witnessed several abandoned and vacant areas in the city. With the knowledge I gain through the program, I can work with the community to develop safe and environmentally friendly spaces for the residents.

This experience through the Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellowship program can reassure my passion for giving back to our communities and help guide my leadership skills so I can be a voice for the voiceless.
