Do you work for a higher education institution or non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. and have (or are interested in developing!) a partnership with a District of Columbia Public School (DCPS)? Then sign up to join our monthly DC Educators meetings. On the first Friday of each month during the school year, colleagues from the DCPS Partnerships Office, community-engaged staff and faculty from higher education institutions, and non-profit leaders working in partnership with DCPS come together to provide updates, share practices, and workshop challenges. We also take virtual “field trips” a few times each year during our meetings to hear from guest speakers from other public school systems and higher education institutions across the country. Sign up to join below and contact Anthony Wagner V with any questions or to learn more!
MISSION
To collaboratively explore and facilitate opportunities for equitable and strategic partnership and engagement between colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, and public schools in Washington, D.C. to better serve DCPS students and educators.
HISTORY
Members of this working group began meeting in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to address inequitable access to tutoring and learning for many students exacerbated by the pandemic in DC Public Schools. Since that time, thanks to strong collaboration and leadership from all partners, college and university students in Washington, D.C. have served as tutors and mentors to public school students most affected by the pandemic. This partnership of higher education institutions, DC Public Schools, non-profit organizations, and Transform Mid-Atlantic continues to explore responsible, reciprocal, and meaningful opportunities for P20 partnerships between colleges and universities and DC Public School, and other partners. As challenges from the pandemic have subsided, DC Educators continue to meet regularly the first Friday of each month from 10:00- 11:00am via Zoom to discuss updates from DCPS, opportunities to collaborate across institutions and organizations, meet with guest speakers and experts, and strategize around important concerns related to how DC higher education institutions can partner to advance the success and goals of students, educators, and families in the District of Columbia. The group is connected to TMA and its network’s P20 CONNECTS strategic initiative.
