  • WHAT IS AN IMPORTANT QUALITY OF AN EFFECTIVE LEADER?

"To me, leadership is not defined by title or authority, but by responsibility, alignment, and the ability to build trust across differences. The most important qualities of leadership are integrity, relational intelligence, strategic vision, accountability, and the discipline to listen. Effective leadership listens to its constituents and makes informed decisions that create a broader and stronger positive impact on the people being served. Listening is not passive, but it is an active commitment to understanding lived experiences before designing solutions."

  • WHAT'S A COMMUNITY-BASED ISSUE THAT YOU CARE ABOUT?

"A significant challenge in my community is the erosion of trust between public institutions and residents, especially between youth and law enforcement. This generational distrust stems from lived experience, systemic inequities, and limited opportunities for meaningful engagement. Without intervention, it threatens long-term community stability. To address this issue, I design prevention-focused mentorship initiatives that combine social-emotional learning, structured recreation, and positive interactions with officers who reflect the communities they serve."

  • TELL US ABOUT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE THAT INSPIRES YOU?

"A quote that has always stood out to me comes from The Color Purple: 'If you never would’ve tried to rule over Sophia, white folks never would’ve gotten to her.' This line speaks powerfully about internal division, power, and the consequences of failing to protect and uplift one another. To me, it draws attention to the importance of unity, accountability, and responsible leadership within our own communities. When leadership becomes about control instead of care, it can unintentionally expose people to greater harm. As a community-engaged student leader, this quote reminds me that leadership must be rooted in empowerment, not dominance or control. My work in public safety, youth mentorship, and nonprofit governance centers on strengthening communities from within, ensuring that systems do not exploit vulnerabilities that are created by mistrust."
