  • WHAT IS AN IMPORTANT QUALITY OF AN EFFECTIVE LEADER?

"The leadership qualities I find most essential in catalyzing social change are empathy, active listening, and cultural competency. Empathy allows me to recognize how social structures influence individual realities. Active listening builds trust and ensures that responses are grounded in lived experience rather than assumption. Cultural competency reminds me that my perspective is limited, and that effective solutions must respect diverse identities and values. I have embraced these qualities by intentionally challenging my own biases and seeking perspectives different from my own."

  • WHAT'S A COMMUNITY-BASED ISSUE THAT YOU CARE ABOUT?

"Through my work as a Peer Ambassador Lead, I have chosen to focus on what I can control—ensuring students have accurate information, creating safe spaces for dialogue, and encouraging others to seek supportI have found the best way to address the root cause of social issues is through a collaborative approach with the community. Meaningful change begins with listening as those most affected by a problem understand its complexity the best and can name barriers shaping their experiences. In conversations about mental health access, I focus on understanding cultural stigmas, resource gaps, and community priorities before proposing ideas. By centering community voices, I work toward solutions that are not only effective but sustainable."

  • TELL US ABOUT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE THAT INSPIRES YOU?

"Serving as a Peer Ambassador Lead, I learned that advocacy requires more than raising awareness; it demands listening, understanding diverse perspectives, and breaking down barriers that prevent people from accessing help. Guiding fellow ambassadors and facilitating open dialogue taught me how to foster trust, build confidence in others, and create spaces where individuals feel seen and supported. These lessons have shaped not only my professional goals but also my approach to civic engagement: I strive to address systemic inequalities, empower communities, and act as a steady, informed presence where it matters most. This perspective drives my commitment to a meaningful, sustainable impact."
