WHAT IS AN IMPORTANT QUALITY OF AN EFFECTIVE LEADER?
"Leadership is not just about guiding a group, but about creating an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their unique strengths. Especially when catalyzing positive changes, leaders must remain openminded, receptive to feedback, and committed to fostering a shared vision. A vivid example of putting these qualities into practice was founding the lacrosse club at Goldey-Beacom College. Arriving on campus, I recognized a unique need for commuters to have a welcoming, active space to connect and learn something new. Creating the club from scratch brought significant challenges: recruiting passionate members, generating enthusiasm, and teaching a sport unfamiliar to many. It demanded adaptability and perseverance. I prioritized listening to each team member, learning from their backgrounds, and encouraging their involvement so that everyone felt a sense of ownership."
WHAT'S A COMMUNITY-BASED ISSUE THAT YOU CARE ABOUT?
"One of the most complex problems facing my campus is commuter friendliness. As a commuter, I understand firsthand the daily financial burdens, the struggle to find affordable meals, and the lack of inviting spaces to unwind or connect with others between classes. These challenges often leave commuters feeling isolated and make it difficult to build meaningful relationships or fully participate in campus life. The lack of a cohesive commuter community can also undermine students’ academic success and well-being...To address this, I have advocated for regular wellness days that prioritize commuters, aiming to bring all students together for inclusive and meaningful activities. I am also developing a proposal for a dynamic commuter lounge—modeled after successful spaces at other universities—that would offer affordable, nutritious food and a comfortable place for commuters to relax, connect, and recharge."
TELL US ABOUT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE THAT INSPIRES YOU?
"'You know what the happiest animal on earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? Got a ten-second memory.' —Ted Lasso, Season 1, Episode 2 This quote resonates with me because it reminds me of the importance of resilience and having the courage to move forward after setbacks. It acknowledges that we are all imperfect and that mistakes are a natural part of growth. As a student leader, I strive to embody this mindset— learning from each challenge, supporting others through difficulties, and always finding the strength to persevere. Carrying this lesson with me, I am committed to building a supportive community where everyone feels empowered to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential."
