ALUMNI AWESOMENESS: After an accomplished career in global non-profit work, Vasu came to the United States from South Africa, thinking he would retire. He soon decided his work wasn't done and joined AmeriCorps as a VISTA, setting the stage for the next chapter in his storied career.

TMA VISTA PROJECT: Vasu served as the Transform Mid-Atlantic AmeriCorps VISTA member in 2020 developing the University of Maryland SAFE Center’s economic empowerment and volunteer programs

WHERE IS HE NOW?: Vasu is now a vital employee the at the University of Maryland SAFE Center, where, as Operations Manager, he is part of a team dedicated to empowering human trafficking survivors to heal and reclaim their lives.

About the SAFE Center: The SAFE Center is an initiative of the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State – a collaboration between the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). MPowering the State leverages both institutions' sizable strengths and complementary missions to strengthen Maryland’s innovation economy, advance interdisciplinary research, create opportunities for students, and solve important problems for the people of Maryland and the nation. Working together, UMB and UMCP achieve innovation and impact through collaboration.
