Harris Wofford’s life was profoundly shaped by his encounters with Mahatma Gandhi and his commitment to civil rights and public service. From advising Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement to helping create the Peace Corps and leading AmeriCorps, Wofford championed Gandhian principles of nonviolence and service. As a U.S. Senator, he co-authored the King Holiday and Service Act with John Lewis, transforming MLK Day into a national day of service, ensuring that Dr. King’s legacy inspires action and community engagement.
